It was during this time that I came to know what a generous and
fair-minded man he was. Although Maurice wasn't an equestrian, he
loved horses as his father had before him. This love and interest
was expressed through his involvement with the B.E.F. and he gave of
his time and talent for the benefit of all equestrians. |
When the B.E.F. became actively involved in an extensive training
and competition programme for young riders, Maurice was
wholeheartedly behind these efforts. He remained supportive even
when his daughters experienced several disappointments and missed
out on representing Bermuda in overseas competitions. |

Maurice was fairly small in stature but he had a heart as big as
'all outdoors.' He loved life, he loved people, he loved to laugh
and he loved a party! He was a great ambassador for Bermudian
equestrians and loved to host 'Bermuda' parties during competitions
at home and abroad. |
He always appreciated the help of other B.E.F. members and during
his tenure as President he designed and presented the "President's
Award." When I took over as President following Maurice, he
continued to be supportive. The closest I came to being annoyed
with him was when he presenting me with a huge box of documents
relating to the B.E.F. - filing was not one of his talents! He
just put everything in a big box. But as he gave the box to me he
burst out laughing - and his laugh, as many of you will remember,
was infectious! I just had to laugh also. |

Maurice should also be remembered for his efforts in the development
of the National Equestrian Centre at Vesey Street in Devonshire. |
His expertise as an architect was fully utilised and his scale
models and drawings helped all involved to understand the enormity
of the project which stand today as a mark of his tenure. |
The equestrian community in Bermuda and abroad was shocked and
saddened by Maurice's untimely and sudden death. He is remembered
with admiration and thanks for his contribution to the sport of
equestrianism. |
