Alexander (Sandy ) J. Mitchell -Bermuda

Para Equestrian Dressage Grade 1-A

Born in Scotland with celebral palsy in 1944, Sandy began riding for pleasure quite early in life.  As founder of WindReach Farm in Canada and WindReach recreational Village in Bermuda www.windreach.org Sandy has always strived to do much more than expected of him and to assist others doing the same.

In 1996 he attended the Atlanta Paralympics as a spectator to support the first Bermuda Paralympic equestrian team.  Soon after, he began training and competing at various local and international competitions in the hopes of becoming a member of the Bermuda Paralympic team to compete at the 2000 Paralympics in Sydney Australia. He achieved his goal in Sydney and went on to compete at the World Championships in Belgium in 2003 where he scored a personal best and placed 6th overall in his grade.

His performance in Belgium secured his place on the Bermuda team competing at the 2004 Paralympics in Athens.  After returning from Athens and a well deserved rest Sandy is now setting his sights on further local, national and International competitions.

In September of 2006 Sandy competed at the FEI Pacific Rim competition in Langley British Columbia where his scores qualified him to compete in the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing riding for Bermuda.

Sandy will be competing at the upcoming FEI World Para Dressage Championships being held in Hartpury England in July 2007.

Sandy is presently residing in Canada where he trains and keeps his horses while continuing to represent Bermuda in International competitions.
