The summer heat is upon us, but even though most of our
members take a break from riding and driving in Bermuda, elsewhere
activities carry on. |
Bermuda took another step forward in climbing the
international ladder when for the first time we had a competitor in
an Official FEI Children’s Competition, when Meghan Diel was
selected to travel to Bogotá, Columbia in late June to take part in
a competition using borrowed horses. Meghan was accompanied by
coach Catrina Sims and did very well; using experience gained in CEA
competitions, and finished 7th out of 35 in the
preliminary competitions against riders from Columbia and 20
visiting countries. Meghan did not reach the finals, but she so
impressed other coaches that she was invited to stay on in Columbia
and also to go to the Untied States to train with the US Coach.
Unfortunately upon her return to Bermuda Meghan had an altercation
with a jet ski and is now out of action for the rest of the summer.
We wish her a swift recovery. |

Stephanie Kemp is in Holland with international rider
Jillian Terceira getting experience on the European circuit.
Michael Rodrigues is also with Jillian. |
Kelby Lusher is also in Europe taking advantage of her
Junior Athlete Scholarship to train with Alex Girding and compete in
Germany. |
Raishun Burch is back in Bermuda for a few days break
before returning to England and competition there and in France. |
Jillian Terceira is close to qualifying for the World
Equestrian Games to be held in Aachen Germany in August. Jill could
also be part a Show Jumping Team to represent Bermuda in the Pan
American Games to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil next year. |
Patrick Nisbett, who is about to re locate to Germany
for the summer, and Tim Collins who is now based in Holland, are
also in contention. This would be a first for Bermuda if we had
Show Jumpers in a major competition, but we will need the support
and backing of the whole BEF. |
We could also have representation in eventing and
dressage with Mary Jane Tumbridge and Annabelle Collins
respectively. |
Ki Minors is in New York State showing in Hunters and
Jumpers and met up with FEI Judge Paul Pereech who was officiating
at the Lake Placid Show. |
Heidi Mello is spending time overseas shoeing and course
building. She was in Jamaica last week for the CEA Adult
Competition. |
Back to more mundane things. The BEF year ends August
31st so members are urged to renew their dues as soon as
possible. Do not wait until the last minute, especially as the BEF
Office will be closed from August 10th to September 3rd
for a well earned rest from horses. |
A reminder about the Official FEI Stewards Clinic which
Bermuda will be hosting on Friday September 8th and
Saturday September 9th If you have not yet submitted your Official
Application please do so together with $50 fee. In addition it
would be appreciated if you would email your application form to
jacherry@northrock.bm before the deadline of 31st
July. We have had confirmations from a number of overseas countries
but there is till space. This will be a very interesting seminar to
be conducted by one of the best FEI experts, David Distler. |

The new season starts in September so check out the
Calendar for details. Show Organizers are reminded and encouraged
to submit their Show Schedules in plenty of time for submission to
the Rules Committee for approval. |

The deadline is July 31st for applications
for the next CEA Junior Jumping Competition to be held in Trinidad
in September. |
