CAROL BLACKMAN |
|
|
Carol says it was hard to give up the eventing,
but she had reached the point in her life when she wondered why she was
doing it and she could finally understand why other people had
stopped. She says she feels lucky to still be doing something else she
loves. . |

Carol is Toy Box Farm’s founder and owner Born
in England, she has ridden horses since she was a child. In 1987, Carol
immigrated to Bermuda. During her 14 years there she competed extensively in
Show Jumping competitions, and was voted Bermuda’s “Equestrian of the
Decade” for the 1970s. . |

|
After immigrating to
America in 1982, Carol switched her focus to Three-Day Eventing, eventually
competing in several international events. These competitions included
representing Bermuda in the 1987 Pan American Games, the 1988 Seoul Olympics
and the 1991 Pan American Championships (winning a team Silver).

Two of Carol’s former students have also gone on to represent their respective countries in international Three-Day competitions. Josh Walther represented the United States at the 1991 Pan American Championships. And, Toy Box Farm’s first working student, Mary Jane (“MJ”) Tumbridge, has successfully competed in a number of international Three-Day competitions. MJ represented Bermuda in the 1999 Pan American Games, where she won the individual Gold, and the 2000 Sydney Olympics. While
Carol has trained a number of high level competitors over the years, she
also finds helping pleasure riders who simply want to improve and expand
their riding skills deeply satisfying. |

Carol is the donor of the 'Little
Orvy' Trophy
for which competitors in Bermuda compete for each year. . |
