Dear President, Re.: National Junior Athlete Sponsorship Programme |
|
|
The National Junior Athlete Sponsorship Programme provides
for recognition of promising young athletes who, by reason of age, would not
yet qualify for assistance from the already established Elite Athletes Fund.
Many of Bermuda’s future Olympians have benefited from awards from this
programme, which seeks to have each NSGB nominate one young athlete for
consideration for an award to
be utilized for their continued development. . |

Successful athletes are expected to be able to benefit beyond
that which they would normally benefit at the hands of their National Sport
Governing Body. For example the funds should not be seen to offset the cost
of the successful athlete competing in a meet that the athlete would have
been chosen to compete in even if he were not in possession of the
scholarship award. The committee has also requested that it be pointed out
that National Governing Bodies must provide an accounting for the full
amount that is awarded. . |

Enclosed is a copy of the guidelines for the National Junior
Athlete Sponsorship Programme, together with an application form to be
completed on behalf of an athlete from your sport.
I would appreciate it if you would study the guidelines carefully,
and have the completed form returned to the Department by not later than
February 11, 2005. Please note that only national
sport governing bodies may submit nominations and that there is to be one
nomination only, from each NSGB. Thank you. . |
