CATHERINE JONES

SHOW JUMPING

Catherine Jones was born in Bermuda on 3rd September 1991 and the daughter of Eardley Jones and Jean Wolosuik.  She attended Saltus Grammar School and has 9 GCSE ‘O’ Levels.  Her current school is Queen Ethelburga’s College, York in the UK and she is studying for 5 GCSE ‘A’ Levels.  She will attend University in the UK in September 2009.

Prior to leaving Bermuda to attend school in the UK Catherine competed in many local shows and in the CEA Junior Jumping Competition in Barbados and Bermuda, she also competed in the Gran Copa in Puerto Rico.

Catherine has been coached in Bermuda by Catrina Sims at Inwood & Spicelands for 8 years, as well as Michael Rodrigues and Mary Frances Gaglio at Hinson Hall.

Catherine and Lyric have settled in well at Queen Ethelburga’s since September 2007.  At Queen Ethelburga’s the boarding rooms are directly above the stables and the indoor arena.  The students are responsible for looking after their own horses including feeding and mucking out every day including weekends.  Catherine has not started to compete yet but has had several clinics and passed her Horse Road Safety exam so she can ride out on hacks.

She was very excited recently to be able to go with Patrick Nisbett and Raishun Burch to a show in Essex where Patrick and Rai were competing, and she met several members of the well known British show jumping Whittaker family.

Although studying is keeping her busy at present, she has not lost her desire to compete at the highest level and she has recently joined the British Show Jumping Association (BSJA) and hopes to compete in their events in 2008.

Catherine’s ambition is to represent her country in the Olympic Games.
