PATRICK NISBETT
SHOW JUMPING

Updated Bio January 2007

Patrick is the son of Barbara and Ervin Nisbett of Bermuda.  He started riding at the age of 4 at Warwick Riding School (now Spicelands Riding Centre).  He was taught by Barbara Heslop on a number of great old horses - Moby Dick, Morning Mist, Piccalo and Beau.
.

Patrick did not compete much as a youngster and he juggled his time between riding and soccer.  His first real competition horses in Bermuda were owned by his uncle Nelson Hunt - they were Tia Maria (who taught him about jumping) and Rocky (who taught him about dressage) with the able assistance of Pam Mahoney and Susan Leighton.
.
In 1989,  Patrick was invited by Peter Gray to train with him in Canada, along with Allison MacIntyre and Gina Flood, with the idea of qualifying for the North American Young Riders Championships in Eventing.
.
Patrick stayed on in the United States and rode at Smokey Ridge Farm which was owned by Judy and Don Gregg, who were in partnership with Galten Farms which was the yard of the Schikendanz family. Patrick then moved to Canada where he rode at Someday Farm.  He returned to Bermuda in 1993 and was offered a position at  Ocean View Farm where he rode for three years.
.
In 1996 he moved to Belgium where he got a taste for international show jumping under the guidance of Jo Hermans, on great horses like Nero, Equinox and Playball.

.

At the end of 1998 Patrick moved to England where he is still based in East Sussex with a small yard, in which he buys and sells and competes his horses on both the national and international circuits.
..
In 2006 after spending a successful time in Spain on the Spring Sunshine Tour Patrick has now moved to Germany for the Summer, where he will be close to more FEI competitions and some intensive training.  He has reached the qualifying standard for the 2007 Pan American Games and hopes to be part of the Bermuda Team.
.
Patrick has returned to Bermuda on occasions to give clinics, but his busy show and training schedule now prevents that happening.
