PATRICK NISBETT SHOW JUMPING
|
|
|
Patrick is the son of Barbara and Ervin Nisbett of
Bermuda. He started riding at the age of 4 at Warwick Riding
School (now Spicelands Riding Centre). He was taught by Barbara Heslop
on a number of great old horses - Moby Dick, Morning Mist, Piccalo and Beau. |
|
|
Patrick did not compete much as a youngster and he juggled his time between
riding and soccer. His first real competition horses in Bermuda were
owned by his uncle Nelson Hunt - they were Tia Maria (who taught him about
jumping) and Rocky (who taught him about dressage) with the able assistance
of Pam Mahoney and Susan Leighton. . |
|
|
In 1989, Patrick was invited by Peter Gray to train with
him in Canada, along with Allison MacIntyre and Gina Flood, with the idea of
qualifying for the North American
Young Riders Championships in Eventing. . |
|
|
Patrick stayed on in the United States and rode at Smokey Ridge Farm which was
owned by Judy and Don Gregg, who were in partnership with Galten Farms which
was the yard of the Schikendanz family. Patrick then moved to Canada where
he rode at Someday Farm. While in Canada he got a job offer from
Millarbrook Farm, but had trouble obtaining a work permit in Canada.
He returned to Bermuda in 1993 and was offered a temporary position at
Ocean View Farm where he rode for three years. . |
|
|
In 1996 he moved to Belgium where he got a taste for international show
jumping under the guidance of Jo Hermans, on great horses like Nero, Equinox
and Playball.

At the end of 1998 Patrick moved to England where he is still based in East
Sussex with a small yard, in which he buys and sells and competes his horses
on both the national and international circuits. The last couple of
years have been building years with his young horses with a view of getting
them ready for sale and or competition. . |

Patrick's goals this year are to get 'Roman' competing at CSI-B/A and to get
'Fena' and 'Dylan' jumping in international age classes. Unfortunately
'Pete' was injured last year so this year will be spent getting him back in
shape. . |
|
| Patrick has been to Bermuda twice, so far this season, to give show jumping clinics which have been very well supported by our local enthusiasts. | |
